The creation of fields such as complexity and chaos studies is perhaps the most straight-forward admission that we (humanity) do not understand the big picture anymore.
Thought-provoking, Jesse. How do you define divergence? My dad was a hippie, so I diverged from the family business in a sense. But my dad was also a member of a profession, and so am I.
I’m not 100% sure. I think divergence is like a mild branching off from the patterns and behaviors of your predecessors. You can diverge from your father’s hippie habits by a significant degree but at that point I’d say he is no longer your predecessor. I would argue that your leaders in the army became your moral predecessors, granted by choice instead of by birth. However, on the job front, you branched off from the behavior that your dad modeled. It’s the aggregation of these various forms of divergence from any number of predecessors in a plethora of contexts that make the world unexplainable at a macro scale.
